Local terrain and wind speed
If the location, in general, looks windy enough the next decision is that of the exact site and height of the turbine. As far as height is concerned - the higher the better. Wind speed increases with height. The exact relationship between output power and height is complicated but in a flat grassland doubling the height of the wind turbine would lead to approximately a 50% increase in power. We typically use masts or towers of 6.5 to 15m high. The major concern is that of obstructions. Look at the flow of air past a house red indicates increased wind speed, blue reduced.
